Terms of Service

Welcome to Handy Mechanic. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Handy Mechanic website, platform, and related services (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Handy Mechanic LLC ("Handy Mechanic," "we," "us," or "our").
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Overview of the Service
Handy Mechanic is a software platform that connects customers seeking mechanical services ("Customers") with independent third-party mechanics ("Mechanics") in their area.
Handy Mechanic does not provide mechanical services and does not employ Mechanics. All services are provided directly by independent Mechanics.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and capable of entering into a legally binding agreement to use the Service.
3. Accounts
You may be required to create an account to access certain features of the Service. You agree to provide accurate and complete information and to keep your account credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
4. Booking & Payments
4.1 Payments
Customers may submit payment through the Handy Mechanic platform for services requested from a Mechanic.
- Payments are processed through a third-party payment processor.
- If a transaction is successfully completed, the Mechanic is paid the service amount minus a transaction fee retained by Handy Mechanic.
- If a transaction fails or is not completed, the Customer will be refunded the full amount paid.
4.2 Fees
Handy Mechanic charges Mechanics a transaction or service fee for use of the platform. Fees may vary and are subject to change with notice.
5. SMS Messaging Service
Handy Mechanic operates an SMS messaging service that lets Customers and Mechanics communicate about a booking through a Handy Mechanic-owned phone number. Neither party ever sees the other's personal mobile number.
5.1 Message Types
When you opt in, you may receive the following transactional messages from Handy Mechanic:
- Booking confirmation when your Mechanic accepts your request
- A reminder the day before your scheduled visit
- An "on the way" / ETA message when your Mechanic departs
- Two-way text and photo messages between you and your Mechanic, relayed through a Handy Mechanic number
- A post-job receipt and rating prompt after the visit is complete
- Booking cancellation notices
5.2 Frequency, Rates, and Marketing
Message frequency varies. Typically 3–8 messages per booking. Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
We will never use this number to send marketing or promotional messages. Messages are limited to the transactional categories listed in section 5.1.
5.3 Opt-In and Opt-Out
You opt in by checking the SMS consent box when submitting a booking request. The box is presented unchecked by default and requires your affirmative action.
You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive from a Handy Mechanic number. Reply HELP for support, or email admin@handymechanic.com. If you opt out, the messaging service will no longer relay communication between you and your Mechanic for the current booking, and we may share the Mechanic's direct phone number with you to complete the booking.
6. Independent Contractors
Mechanics using the Service are independent contractors, not employees, agents, or representatives of Handy Mechanic.
Handy Mechanic does not:
- Guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of services
- Supervise or control Mechanics
- Set prices for services (unless explicitly stated)
Any agreement for services is solely between the Customer and the Mechanic.
7. Cancellations & Disputes
Cancellation and refund policies may vary depending on the Mechanic and service booked. Handy Mechanic may, but is not obligated to, assist in dispute resolution.
Handy Mechanic is not responsible for disputes arising from services performed by Mechanics.
8. User Conduct
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for unlawful purposes
- Harass, threaten, or defraud others
- Interfere with the operation of the platform
- Attempt to bypass platform fees or payment systems
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
9. Intellectual Property
All content, software, branding, and trademarks on the Service are the property of Handy Mechanic LLC or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without written permission.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE."
HANDY MECHANIC DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HANDY MECHANIC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING DAMAGES RESULTING FROM SERVICES PROVIDED BY MECHANICS.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Handy Mechanic LLC from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.
13. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including violation of these Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
